i sit outside
uneasy in my chair
listening to familiar sounds
that never were quite clear
i know it should be
babies and cooking recipes
different kinds of
fabric and some sorority
but even as i know these
things i find in them
illusion
while sitting
here outside myself
uneasy in my chair.

- This Blog was initially created to help illustrate my Mom's poetry. Her name; Shirley A. Bender. She was born in Indianapolis in 1933. She spent 20 years of her adult life in Arizona and New Mexico. She attended Purdue University, and has lived in Lafayette, Indiana since 1971. She is married to her husband of 60 years, has three children, four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren w/1 in the oven. She has read her poems throughout the country, and works with grade school children to foster creative writing. My mom's sister, the late Mary Lou Meyer, was the driving force behind my mother to have her books published. Aunt Lou also had eight of her sister's poems set to music. All eight of these tunes were composed by Laurie Stonerock and can be heard on this blog.
